Flour and Bread-making

Explore the Tradition of Flour and Bread-making in the Valdichiana Aretina

Valdichiana Aretina is a land rich in ancient roots, populated since Etruscan times, who realized even then the agricultural potential of this region and exploited its riches for the production of wheat, a key food resource that has nourished generations of Tuscans over the centuries.

Known as the "granary of the Etruscans", the Valdichiana Aretina has maintained its agricultural tradition and today offers wheat of the highest quality, which is transformed into a variety of delicious products. The pasta made by the renowned Fabianelli company, based in Castiglion Fiorentino, is one example, using raw materials sourced directly from the Valdichiana Aretina to create delicious pasta dishes for more than 160 years.

The flour produced in this region is also highly valued by local bakers, such as Menchetti at Cesa in Valdichiana, who have been using this valuable ingredient since 1948 to produce the famous Montagnano bread, characterized by its traditional salt-free recipe.

Besides bread, Valdichiana Aretina flour is used in the preparation of tasty focaccia, pizzas, traditional desserts and much more.

Through their passion and love for the Tuscan land, these producers, both large and small, bear witness to their genuine, high-quality products. Thanks to them, every day the authenticity of the Valdichiana Aretina, a pure representation of the most authentic and genuine Tuscany, can be savored.
