This route was created by La Chianina ASD, organiser of the Chianina Ciclostorica, an annual event featuring pre-1987 vintage bikes and clothing that attracts enthusiasts from all over Italy.
The route in the Valdichiana Aretina is a journey through time, among the historical events and war monuments that define the landscape of the villages. It starts at the fortress of Marciano della Chiana, witness to the Battle of Scannagallo (1554). Today the tower is a lively cultural centre.
From Marciano, we continue along the Pozzo provincial road towards Badicorte, Spoiano, and Albergo, crossing the agricultural heart of the Valdichiana. Approaching Cinigiano, the Rocca di Civitella in Val di Chiana emerges, with stories ranging from Etruscan origins to World War II.
Past Cinigiano, we plunge into the woods around the Gargonza Castle to Monte San Savino, with its fairytale tower and renowned porchetta (roast suckling pig). We continue along provincial road 19 towards Lucignano, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with its medieval Cassero, now a theatre.
The last 7 km take us back to our starting point, completing a unique journey through history and breathtaking scenery.
