The stunning Sodo Archaeological Park preserve the ancient past of the territory keeping a a series of extraordinary artifacts and monuments.
Beside its museum exhibition, the Sodo Park includes also artefacts telling the story of Cortona's millenary past and its first local communities. Here it is possible to find two 'meloni', ancient burial mounds that date back to the Archaic period, including the Sodo mound, notable for its majestic staircase-terrace decorated with fine sculptures and architectural elements recalling the Oriental style.
You can also visit the "Tanella di Pitagora", better known as the "Tomb of Pitagora", a monument known to travellers since the 1500s, together with the Tanella Angori and the Tomb of Mezzavia. In the surrounding area, on the slopes of Mount Cortonese, a dense network of paved roads dating back to Roman times has recently been discovered.
Finally, on the shores of Lake Trasimeno are the remains of the late Republican and Imperial villa of Ossaia. The park can be explored with an exciting archaeological trek along its paths or by bike.
