The Rocca di Civitella, built between the 6th and 7th centuries by the Lombards, dominates the landscape with its mighty structure. A unique example of Longobard architecture, it has survived battles, sieges and bombardments, preserving intact its ancient charm. Dominated by the bishops of Arezzo until 1289, with the Battle of Campaldino it came under the Florentines. The medieval village, enclosed within the city walls, opens out at the foot of the Rocca, creating an evocative atmosphere rich in history.
Strolling through the cobbled streets, visitors can breathe the atmosphere of ancient times, among stone houses, square towers and the Porta Aretina, the only entrance to the village. The recently restored Rocca offers an unforgettable experience: from its walls a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding valleys can be enjoyed. The Museo della Memoria houses artefacts and evidence of daily life in the village, handing down the memory of an eventful past. During World War II, although damaged by bombing, it proudly resisted, becoming a symbol of resilience for the Civitella inhabitants.
