Val di Chio, on the borders of Valdichiana, is a real natural and historical jewel. The itinerary follows the course of the ancient Cilone stream. It joins the Vingone River, which in turn joins the Maestro della Chiana. The valley is dotted with picturesque medieval villages. Each one has its own history and charm.
The ancient villages of the Val di Chio, once strategic military points or centres of agricultural production, overlook watercourses that have given rise to mills that are centuries old. Many of these mills are still in good condition, providing a charming historical backdrop for the "Ancient Mills Route".
